Gluten and dairy free shepherds pie
Shepherds pie, also known as cottage pie, is a comforting dish made with minced meat topped with potatoes. Traditionally made with lamb or mutton, the featured American version uses ground beef and vegetables. This recipe can be made ahead in a 9-by-11-inch cake pan.  Bake in the oven at 350 degrees for one hour. Serves 10.

Ingredients:
1.5 pounds ground beef, lamb or poultry meat
1 onion, diced
1 bell pepper, diced
1 cup vegetable broth
2 tablespoons molasses *
2 tablespoons pomegranate

molasses or tamarind *
2 tablespoons vinegar *
1 package frozen peas and carrots
1 can green beans
3 cloves minced garlic
salt to taste
pepper to taste
8 cups mashed potatoes

* Substitute Worcestershire sauce for molasses's and vinegar if desired

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

Fry the ground beef until browned. Add the onion and bell pepper. Stir the spices and sauce ingredients together with the broth. Pour over the meat and allow to simmer for a few minutes to blend the flavors. Add the vegetables and cook until heated through.

Transfer the meat and vegetables to a cake pan or baking dish.

Make 8 cups of mashed potatoes. Use instant for convenience or make your own from scratch.

Cover the meat mixture with the mashed potatoes.

Bake for one hour in a 350 degree oven.
Serve warm.
