Yummy dog treat

Your dog will go crazy for these yummy homemade dog treats. A bone shaped cookie cutter makes us smile, while the delicious peanutty taste will have your pet begging for more.

Ingredients:

1 cup flour
3/4 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup peanuts
1/4 cup sesame seeds
2 tablespoons toasted wheat germ
3/4 cup butter
1 egg
2 to 3 tablespoons water

Preheat your oven to 325 deg. F.

Stir together flours, brown sugar, peanuts, sesame seeds and wheat germ in a medium mixing bowl.

Use a pastry blender or a set of knives to cut the butter in until the mixture becomes course crumbs.

Make a well in the center of the mixture. Combine the egg and 2 tablespoons of water and stir into the crumbs. Add more water if necessary until the dough clings together.

Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface.  Knead the dough by folding and gently pressing for four to six strokes or until it holds together.  Use a rolling pin and roll to 1/4 inches thick.

Use a bone shaped cookie cutter or cut into squares with a knife. Place cutouts 1-inch apart on an ungreased cookie sheet.

Bake in the oven for 25 minutes. Turn off the oven and let the dog cookies dry in the oven for 2 hours.

Remove from the cookie sheet. Layer the dog cookies in an airtight container separated with sheets of wax paper. Store at room temperature for two weeks or freeze for later use.
