Monkeys love bananas!
Pom pom animals are an easy and engaging craft for school age kids.  Try this creative project at your next group gathering, birthday party, or just for fun.  Once you show your kids how to make these, they will want to craft a whole collection of these cute little animals.  They make great party favors for a birthday or baby shower too.

Gather your supplies.  Assorted pom poms, Chenille stems, felt, craft glue, and wiggly eyes can all be purchased at your local craft and some fabric stores.

Cover your work area with newspaper.  Your pom pom animal needs a base.  Thin cardboard works great for many types of critters.  Cut a little larger than the bottom pom pom.

You can also purchase assorted wooden disks at your craft store for your base.  These can be easily colored with markers if desired.

Use a generous amount of craft glue and work from the bottom up.

If your animal has a tail, place it between your first pom pom and the base. Chenille stems are easy to cut with a good pair of scissors.

Feet can be made from felt, tiny pom poms, or chenille stems.  Pictured here are penguin feet cut from felt.

Heads of the pom pom animals are best assembled separately and attached with a generous amount of glue.  The nose is a tiny pom pom and the wiggly eyes are attached to the felt face.  Note that the arms of this monkey will be sandwiched between the body and the head.

Hair can be crafted from yarn.  Note that there is a bow tie and a cape for this little penguin.

Add accessories if desired.  This little monkey has a banana crafted from felt and a little piece of chenille stem.  Let your imagination flow!

Your pom pom animals will be dry in a few minutes and ready to play!

Tips:

Make a house or zoo with decorated shoeboxes.  Your kids will have hours of fun!

Gift a pom pom animal and a package of craft supplies.  You can purchase assorted pom poms, chenille stems, wiggly eyes and felt very inexpensively.  Include a bottle of craft glue with the kit.

Always supervise pets or young children who may chew or swallow small parts.
