We visited the Midwest Home Show at the Minneapolis convention center in March to look at the latest kitchen design features and solutions for the blind corner cabinets. We already knew the kitchen contractors were too expensive for our budget and the slick salespeople didn't change our mind as they showed off their high-end designs. Soft close cabinets and drawers that pull out all the way are very popular right now, along with silestone counter tops. Most of the vendors showed the corner swing-out hardware from Rev-A-Shelf or the high priced Hafele Magic Corner. I had already spent hours researching on the internet and had learned that many of these swing-out additions waste a lot of space in the cupboard. They looked cool, but all I could think about was the cost and the potential for mechanical failure. Lazy-Susan's or corner drawers are also not efficient in utilizing the corner space. Next, I scoped out Ikea, Home Depot and Menards kitchen displays. I really liked the big, deep drawers that are currently popular for lower cabinets. After hours of research, we decided on L shaped cupboards for the two upper corners and the lower cupboard on the left. I had two choices for the last lower corner: buy another blind corner cupboard or box it off and ignore it. We are moving the dishwasher beside the sink, leaving no room for a lazy susan or L shaped cupboard. After much thought, the decision was made to box it off and go for the large pull out drawers on the right hand wall.
